What type of identification is acceptable?
Florida law requires signers to present valid identification before a document can be notarized. In most cases, acceptable forms of ID include:
- State-issued driver's licenses
- State-issued identification cards
- United States passports or passport cards
- Military identification cards
- Veteran Health Identification Cards
- Foreign passports stamped by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
- Inmate identification cards issued by the Florida Department of Corrections (for inmates in custody)
- Other government-issued identification that includes a photograph, signature, and identifying number
Your identification must reasonably establish your identity and generally must be current or have been issued within the previous five years.
If you are unsure whether your identification meets Florida requirements, please contact Sunlight Notary before your appointment.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please have your document(s), acceptable identification, and any required witnesses available at the time of your appointment. Documents should be complete and ready for notarization before your appointment.
For Remote Online Notarization (RON), you will also need a device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and the ability to complete identity verification through the online platform.
If you have questions about your document, witness requirements, or appointment preparations, please contact Sunlight Notary before your appointment.
Do I need a witness for my documents?
Some documents require witnesses, while others do not. The document preparer, receiving agency, or attorney can usually tell you whether witnesses are required.
If your document requires witnesses, it is generally the signer's responsibility to provide them unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
If you are unsure whether witnesses are required for your document, please contact Sunlight Notary before your appointment, and we will be happy to discuss your options.
Can you come to my location?
Yes. Sunlight Notary offers mobile notary services and can meet clients at homes, businesses, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, coffee shops, and other mutually agreed-upon locations throughout Gainesville and surrounding communities.
For the safety and convenience of all parties, some appointments—particularly after-hours appointments—may be conducted at a public meeting location.
If your document is eligible for Remote Online Notarization (RON), you may also be able to complete your notarization entirely online from the comfort of your home or office.
Travel fees vary based on the appointment location. All applicable fees will be disclosed prior to your appointment.
Not sure which option is right for you? Call or text 352-575-1963, and Sunlight Notary will be happy to help.
Do you offer online notarization?
Yes. Sunlight Notary offers Remote Online Notarization (RON), allowing many documents to be notarized completely online from anywhere in Florida—or even while you are located outside of Florida, provided your document meets Florida's legal requirements.
Remote Online Notarization uses a secure online platform that allows you to meet with a commissioned Florida notary by live audio-video connection. You can upload your documents, verify your identity, and complete the notarization without traveling to an office or meeting in person.
RON is often a convenient option for:
Busy professionals
Individuals with limited mobility
College students
Military personnel
Travelers
Anyone who prefers the convenience of completing their notarization online
Not all documents are eligible for Remote Online Notarization. If you're unsure whether your document qualifies, call or text 352-575-1963, and Sunlight Notary will be happy to help determine the best option for your situation.

How much does notarization cost?
